Why New Paint Isn’t Perfect
Cars sit on lots, ride on transport trucks and get washed repeatedly before delivery. Many arrive with fine marks from dealership washing and light contamination from transit. It’s usually minor, and a light polish clears it. The point is to do that before protection goes on, not after.
What About the Dealership’s Protection Package?
Many dealers sell a paint sealant or coating at signing. Ask three questions: what product it is, who applies it and what is guaranteed. Dealer packages are often a quick sealant applied in bulk without correction, which is different from the work we do. Independent new car protection by a manufacturer-certified installer can be priced comparably, and you choose the product, the film coverage and the prep.
You are not obligated to take the dealer package. If you already did, call us anyway and we can tell you what is on the paint and what, if anything, to add.
A Sensible New-Car Plan
- Decontaminate and wash. Remove transit fallout so the paint is truly clean. Our exterior detailing covers this.
- Light correction if needed. New paint often needs only a gentle polish. See paint correction.
- Film on high-impact areas. 3M Chip Protect on the bumper, hood, fenders and mirrors absorbs stone strikes.
- Coating over everything. DuraSlic or FlightShield protects paint, trim and glass from road film, UV and water spots.
- Interior protection and cleanup. Fresh upholstery and leather benefit from early care, too.
Which protection first?
If you can do only one, choose by how you drive. Long highway miles favor film on the front end. Mostly local driving and street parking favor a coating. Paint protection film vs. ceramic coating lays out the trade-offs in detail.

What to Know About Coatings on New Cars
Brand-new paint needs little correction, so coating a new car is often more affordable than coating an older one. The paint is also the easiest to keep perfect. Ceramic coating cost still depends on the vehicle’s size and the system you choose. For lifespan, read how long ceramic coating lasts. The First Year With a Protected Car
After new car protection, upkeep is simple. Wash gently every couple of weeks, rinse off bird droppings and sap promptly, and avoid automatic washes with worn brushes. A protected car cleans faster, so the routine takes less time than before. If you keep the vehicle for years, a periodic check-in lets us look over the coating and the film edges. Interior care belongs in the plan too. New upholstery and leather are easier to protect than to restore. A conditioned, clean cabin ages better, and our interior detailing service can handle it at the same visit.Leased or Financed Vehicles
Protection is just as useful on a lease. Clean, unscratched paint and a tidy interior help avoid wear charges at turn-in. Film and coating are designed to protect the finish and can be removed or maintained according to the product.Bring It to Renton
