What Moves the Price

Vehicle size

A compact car has less to clean than a full-size SUV or a crew-cab truck. More surface and more interior mean more time.

Condition

Heavy pet hair, ground-in stains and neglected paint take longer. A car that's cleaned regularly is cheaper to detail than one that hasn't seen a vacuum in a year.

The level of work

A wash, a detail and a multi-step correction with protection are very different jobs. Correction adds labor, and protection adds product. Paint correction and coating are what separate a clean car from a transformed one.

Add-ons and special requests

Odor removal with an ozone machine and overspray removal are quoted individually, and boat details are quoted by size. DuraSlic ceramic coating and 3M film are quoted per vehicle. See what ceramic coating costs and how paint protection film is priced.

Which Service Is Worth Paying For?

Just dirty?

A hand car wash is all you need.

Interior a mess?

An interior detail. See pet hair and odor removal.

Paint dull or swirled?

An exterior detail, or Platinum for two-step correction.

Want lasting protection?

The Signature Detail, or a coating or film.

Selling the car?

A Premium or Standard detail so it shows well.

A Quick Example

Say you drive a medium-size four-door sedan. A hand car wash is $65. If the interior is a mess, an interior detail is $295. If the paint is dull and you want it brought back with a wax, an exterior detail is $350. If you want both inside and out done properly, a Standard Interior Detail is $325 and a Standard Exterior Detail is $395, and the Premium Detail at $430 covers both with an engine bay steam clean. Knowing what each includes makes the choice a lot easier.

Is Cheaper Better?

Rock-bottom prices usually mean shortcuts: skipped prep, generic products or rushed work. It’s worth asking what’s included, who does it and what’s guaranteed. Our checklist for choosing a car detailer helps. A fair price is one where you understand exactly what you’re getting.

How Often to Pay

Most cars don’t need a full detail every month. Regular washing between details stretches the value, and our guide to how often to detail your car suggests a schedule. For the difference between a wash and a detail, see car wash vs. car detail.
